Mythology & History of Neelkanth Temple
According to Hindu mythology, during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), a deadly poison known as Halahal emerged, which could destroy the world. To save creation, Lord Shiva drank the poison. However, Parvati stopped it in his throat, which turned blue. This event earned him the name “Neelkanth” (meaning blue throat).
